Submissions are Open for OOB 2019!

Submissions for our 44th season of the Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival are now open!

I know, I know, you’re probably wondering, “wasn’t it August just yesterday?” Technically, no, but it feels like it wasn’t long ago that we were in the midst of watching new stories from our talented finalists. Festivals take a long time to plan, so we’re accepting applications now from playwrights all around the world!

Playwrights have from today until December 13 to submit an original short play for the 2019 OOB Festival. After the deadline, thirty finalists will be chosen to have their work performed during our week-long festival New York City. This is also when the finalists will have multiple opportunities to expand their professional network and meet other playwrights, directors, actors, producers, artistic directors, and Samuel French staff. By the end of the week, six plays will be chosen for publication and licensing by Samuel French.

Since this is a short play festival, submissions may be no longer than fifteen pages and have a maximum run time of 20 minutes. If you are submitting a musical the page limit should reflect the libretto. Submissions must be in a digital format only. For information on formatting guidelines, please carefully read the Samuel French Submission Formatting Guidelines. Cover pages or additional cast size pages are not required and will not be counted against the 15 page limit.

Writers may submit only 1 play, including plays they have co-authored. Producers (writer’s groups, theatre companies, universities, etc.) may submit up to 15 plays accredited to their organization, but can only submit one play by an individual playwright.

Playwrights previously published by Samuel French, Inc. or their subsidiary Baker’s Plays are not eligible for submission into the Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival. This includes winners of previous Samuel French Festivals. Plays presented in previous Samuel French Off Off Broadway Festivals are not eligible for re-submission.

If you have a story that must be heard, then please share it with us by December 13. We can’t wait to read it!
